DECEMBER 4, 2018 — This Product Hunt Columbus event was an extra special one. Not only was it a great turnout, but the companies presenting were one-of-a-kind.
On November 15th, TIME Magazine released their list of the 50 Best Inventions of 2018. Both Grypmat and Yubi Beauty were named on the list! We also celebrated the brand new launch of the app Shuffle. See what we learned from these three companies below.

Grypmat – The Gravity-Defying Toolbox
Founder Tom Burden started Grypmat after working as an F-16 weapons mechanic in the Air-Force. While working on an aircraft, he needed all of his tools in one place, ready for him to grab, but could never find a good place to set them. Placing them anywhere on the aircraft would just result in them slipping off onto the ground.
His solution, the Grypmat. The Grypmat is the perfect spot to place your tools. Its non-slip material holds tools up to a 70-degree angle, allowing mechanics to place their tools almost anywhere on any piece of machinery to keep them safe and in place.
You may have seen Grypmat on Sharktank this past year where Tom successfully convinced sharks Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, and Richard Branson to take a bite out of Grypmat.

Shuffle – Your Playlists of Places
Jacqueline Rinehardt started Shuffle a few months prior. Shuffle is designed as a social bookmarking platform — think Reddit for links, Spotify for music, Pinterest for projects — Shuffle is social bookmarking for physical locations.
Shuffle allows users to create lists (called Playlists) of their favorite locations, such as “Best Brunch spots in Columbus” or “5 Must-Try Restaurants Downtown.” The app allows users to share, favorite, and follow playlists.
Launching last week, the Shuffle app is now available to download for both iOS and Android. They are looking for early adopters of the platform to share their favorite places in cities all over the world!

Yubi Beauty – A Simpler Way to Apply Makeup
Adiya Dixon wanted to solve a problem with makeup. Existing makeup brushed were all the same and they were all cumbersome to use. Brushes are designed to paint away from the body, not onto it, making precision a challenge. Not only are they poorly designed, but washing them is a nightmare.
Adiya wanted to reinvent the makeup applicator. Instead of painting the makeup on with a brush, she wanted to create a more natural feel. She created the Yubi Buff & Blend Set as seen in the picture above.
